A Drabble : Musings of a Prisoner – (Blog-a-ton 6)

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 6; the sixth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton.

A Drabble is an extremely short work of fiction exactly one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity and to express interesting and meaningful ideas in an extremely confined space.

“Last few days!” he thought, as he captured the reds and pinks of his life!

A life, he was sometimes proud of, but mostly full of regrets.

That night in a drunken state, he had raped his daughter! Her pleas and cries didn’t penetrate him. Later, the police woke him and he saw her lifeless body.

“How could I?” echoes incessantly in his ears, still.
Twelve years in this penitentiary, no peace, still.

He thought of his shining career… the fame, fans, money and everything it could buy.

He smiled sardonically, success has a thousand fathers. Defeat is an orphan.

PS : Here, Red signifies the evil and Pink symbolizes the appreciation, admiration,  health, love, joy in our lives.

  2. new to this concept of drabble. NIce concept what about the man writing in that pic what part he has to play there. The red and pink interpretation was nice though.

  3. Another new format….well I think Drabble is here to stay, about the story I must say it is a disturbing one. Keeping your feet on the ground is very important if u bcome famous…Kinda reminds me of Hank from Californication…gr8 one

  4. wow! Loved the idea of using red and pink instead of the usual black and white moments 🙂

Drabble sounds like a tempting format of fiction writing. I need to give it a try some time.

Fantastic plot in limited words, you’ve captured all details in real few words.

Keep up the wonderful work Shilpa.

    Cheers!!

  5. Drabble sounds like another format. I am not sure whether a writer should limit her/himself to the number of words. The satisfaction of expressing oneself (thought lengthy write up would fetch less readers, I agree) is important too. It seems that you can express it in limited words, so it sounds good.

  6. “reds and pinks”

“success has 1000 fathers, defeat is an orphan”..

Story-telling at its best! Wonderful Shilpa. You’ve exceeded any expectations I had whatsoever before I started reading this post.

Good Luck. Hats Off madame 🙂

  19. Shilpa,
I am sorry for being late on the wagon, but I really feel sad for being late. This post is simply awesome!
Nice interpretation (it’s only after you others have started using the colour theory!) and also an utterly devastating tale!

The interpretation of the picture was awesome shilpz! Really superb!

  21. Drabble is something I feel is new to me! Thanks for educating people like me in your first para! The story comes like a grudge to me.. The plot is extremely sensitive and serious! Sad that such incidents do happen! Good one Shilpa!

So tried my hands on it! 🙂

@ Vipul Grover : Yeah, when 55 is toooo less, move to Drabble! 😀

  27. Move away 55F , 2010 is for drabble 😉

I liked the short, crisp and strong story. But frankly somehow as an entry for article based on the story , it did not jell well (it’s just my opinion, don’t mind) neverthless, I loved the story without connecting it with the image.
