The Ghosts of Mill Road Station

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 15; the fifteenth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton.

A Drabble is an extremely short work of fiction exactly one hundred words in length. Michael Kent of The Next Big Writer used “Droubble” for a double drabble, a story in exactly 200 words. This is my first attempt at a DROUBBLE.
Alston_Station_by_wandereringsoul“Even after 56 years of abandonment and neglect it still looks grandiose!” he thought with a wry smile as he soaked in the architectural beauty and marvel of the Mill Road Railway Station.

Situated some 50 miles from the nearest civilization, Mill Road Station catered to mainly the goods trains and a fortnightly passenger train.

Destiny had brought him here as the Station Master but he desperately wanted to change it then.

The love and longing for his new wife did not let him enjoy the respect and responsibility this job gave him.

And then, a passenger died under mysterious circumstances. The furore of an inexplicable death and the ‘ghostly’ stories doing the rounds terrorised the small task force of employees of the Mill Road Station.

In no time, the station was labelled as a haunted one with no train stopping to stop there and no railway employee willing to work.

On a request of the lone warrior of the Mill Road Station, the Station Master was transferred and the station was closed and labelled as abandoned station.

Today, he desperately wished that this visit would lay his inner ghosts and the ghost of Mill Road Station to rest, finally.

  1. Sorry but, i didn’t get the message you wanted to convey.

How can someone, by merely revisiting a place, lay to rest all the ghosts from his past?….It can be nostalgic but not cathartic…..just my opinion.

  2. Thanks for sharing the link, but unfortunately it seems to be down… Does anybody have a mirror or another source? Please answer to my post if you do!

I would appreciate if a staff member here at shilpaagarg.blogspot.com could post it.

    Thanks,
    Oliver

  3. WOW !!! Thats a gud one Shilpa…

Even after 50 years, some ghosts are not laid to rest…oh yeah, so true. Like that pic too. A painting ???

  4. I might be wrong here but i dont think this has any element of spook.
Rather, i saw it as a very telling commentary on the ineptitude and insensitivity of the world at large and the impotent disconsolation of an individual who is made to relent to the whims of the world.
Either way,as always, enjoyed the read-especially his having come to peace with it all.

  5. interesting take!! some many forms of story writing… i could know of all these only from fellow bloggers like you.
and it’s an art to express things with limit on word count, and you did a great job here. All the best for BAT, and do read my post. would love to hear from you on what I wrote.
