Ten Things About My Love-Hate Relationship With Comments

Comments!! We all love them! We all look forward to them!! And how we wish for lots of them, the comments I mean!

Yeah, you know, I am talking about the comments on our blog posts!! And I am sure you never mistook it (even for a milli second) for the comments that we receive from our spouses or bosses or friends! In the latter case, it cannot be even a single COMMENT!

Ok, coming back to our beloved comments on our blog posts!!

Well, I have a love and hate relationship with the comments on our blogs.

  1. I love receiving comments on my blog.
  2. I love commenting on posts too.
  3. When I see a response to any comment that I had made on any other blog post, I like that too.
  4. When I do not see any response to the comment that I had made on any other blog post, I always exhibit an understanding look, “Oh, she/he must be busy (just like me!)”.
  5. However, I find responding to the comments on my blog very tedious and cumbersome. I know, not responding to the comments is like, not opening the door, when somebody visits your home or not receiving the call, when somebody calls you on your phone. I know, it’s very rude to do that!
  6. Of course, I want to respond to each and every comment on my blog promptly, but it just does not happen.  In fact, it plays heavily on my mind and whenever I post a new blog post without responding to the comments on the earlier post (which is 99% 98% of the time, I am reminded of the Cadbury Bournville advertisement!!
  7. Most of the time, I respond to all most of the comments at one go, during some flash inspirational moments!
  8. Reasons are many… but the main issue is the Blogger Comment Format, which is not at all interactive like the WordPress one! And going up and down the page to respond to every comment is something which irks me after a while.  And no, I’d not like to shift to WordPress, nor I’d like to install Disqus etc! I know, I am acting too pig-headed!
  9. I have subscribed to all the comments on my blog on my gmail which is configured on my BB too! So, I can view all the comments as soon as they appear on the blog on my phone.
  10. I wish, I could respond to the comments on my blog through my BB… I mean, I do receive the comments in my gmail, so there must be a way to respond to the comments too via the BB. Here is a sincere and earnest request to all you tech savvy bloggers… please suggest a way!!

Pls pour in your Comments errr… I mean thoughts, advice, suggestions!! 🙂

  1. even I do not respond to comments these days..I seldom find time to blog – both reading and writing..and whenever i do, I don’t waste it on replying to comments..it’s ok to be lazy sometimes na? 😛

  2. Well
I LOVE recieving comments 🙂 and that too loas of them you can call me greedy i dont mind 🙂

and i am sure lots will vouch i do comment what i think reading the article and I dont do the formality kind of stuff where people say Nice, good, etc etc if you are writing might as well write properly ..

and I do respond back to all the comments i maybe be late by i do try to respond..

yeah this is one reason i changed to wordpress, but if you try that intensedebate app on ur blogspot it will become easier you can reply to the email to reply to a comment…
The only bad point is you will nto be able to import the comment in case you want to more away from blogspot …

    Bikram’s

  3. Replying to comments on Blogger can be very tedious, hence I had made the big move to WP 🙂
I don’t reply to comments made on my stories especially when readers respond with exclamations and smileys alone.
Else, I am with you I simply love comments.

  4. Shilpaa,
It is true with most of us. We like to receive and post comments.
I feel very happy when a comment of mine is responded to. More so because it gives one the feeling that the comment HAS been read.
You have a unique flow of writing. Very nice.

  5. Cant but agree to most of your points. We all love and are eager to be responded to.Honestly we may see that we get better response on the Blog than from our spouse in real .

  6. I just loved ur 10 points….I related to it very well….he he he…similar thinking…. 🙂 🙂

I shifted to WP, becos of that one reason only….replying to my comments….and its been a fab journey after that… 🙂 🙂

I felt that more response from me for the comments and making it almost like a conversation over the comment section, has been responsible for more hits on the blog too…. 😉

Dont know if u can reply thru email….in blogger.

  7. Move to WP Shilpa! 🙂
It’s easier and replying to comments isn’t a chore! 🙂

I moved to WP mainly so that I could respond better to comments!

And yes, I love receiving comments too! 🙂 🙂

  8. I’m sure that everyone like comments on their blogs and there’s no way other than using disqus or replying to the comments after checking every comment.

  9. I’m facing the same problem like you!! I ‘m equally totally annoyed with scrolling the page up and down and respond to every comment! I try to do them, but that’s not immediate…after few days or when ever i find time!
