A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose!

Things are as they are, not as they should be!

T is for… Twitter

a-to-z-letters-t

I have a series on my blog which is called Ten on Tuesdays. What a coincidence this is that the alphabet T for this A to Z Challenge is scheduled for a Tuesday!! So, this gives me a perfect opportunity to do my Ten on Tuesdays, today for alphabet T!!cooltext468162920
Ten Things I See on Twitter
  1. I am a very active Twitter user. No, I don’t tweet much but I simply read. I hardly tweet. In fact, whatever tweets that can be seen on my Twitter profile are all my new blog post links. No, I don’t tweet them manually, but a setting on the blog allows the link to be posted on Twitter as soon as a new post comes up. Whenever and wherever I get a few free minutes, I am reading Tweets. Whether, it is while waiting for the doctor in his clinic or travelling or waiting for a friend somewhere and even before sleep takes over, I am reading Tweets on my phone. All this gazing the phone for Tweets tells me about some patterns the tweeters follow…
  2. Ask anything… Yes, you can ask anything on Twitter and the twitterati  will come out in full support and give you the advice, suggestions, tips… All you have do is just ask. So go ahead and ask for the directions to a club or the location of a post office in Bandra or a skin specialist in Lucknow. Hell, you can even tweet ‘Hunger has struck again, what to eat?’ And even this, “Extremely low BP and I am shivering and sweating like hell….what to do?”TwitterBird
  3. Have a craving for something? Satisfy it on Twitter : No, you need not go into the kitchen or step out of your home to buy that thing… just tweet…’Koi Jalebi khilayega’, ‘Coffee de do koi’, ‘Koi Chennai mein Beer pila do’. You can even tweet “Feel like smoking. Anybody near Barakhamba Rd?’
  4. Random or trivial things… Believe it or not even the most random or silly thing or something which would not be relevant to anybody else but you can be shared on Twitter. So you may tweet, ‘just met someone who was carrying a rainbow colored polka dotted plastic bag’ or that you are on page 239 of Maximum City or that you are going for a haircut or that you murdered a mosquito or simply tweet, ‘Yaawwnnnnn’.
  5. Tell the world what you are eating/drinking… I just had a glass of the Fratelli Shiraz Cabernet Franc, says one. Bournvitaaaa says another. Fried fish. Rice. Chicken Pepper salami..onion and cheese chicken sausage.. Lassi.. 2 Pieces of Bournville and 2 Rasgullas tweets somebody. Post the pictures of the food you are eating as a picture is certainly worth a thousand words.TwitterBirdShouting
  6. Crib or complain about anything and everything : May be cribbing about something gives that inner peace. So one can crib, crib, crib on twitter till the cows come home… ‘Dear Monday, behave.’  ‘What a facepalmworthy piece of shit is the new Lays Ad.’ ‘Bloody global warming’, ‘Congratulations! Petrol prices have increased’.
  7. Social Service :  You help yourself by helping others, and Twitter helps you in reaching out to someone who needs help. ‘A friend is in the hospital and needs blood immediately in Delhi… If you have an O positive blood group…’ or ‘An AC bus has broken down on Matunga Flyover. Caused a major jam. Please avoid that route’ And of course you can also tweet, “I have made dinner for 2, anybody cares to join me?’
  8. Live Tweets : You are watching a cricket match or at a conference or at a meet… just create a live newsfeed with your Tweets of course with your expert comments. ‘Dhoni in pain..he’s out..CSK still in!! RR great catch!!’ ‘CSK while stranded on a rooftop, was waiting for Dhoni’s helicopter to rescue, it crashed. Haar ka Shubhaarambh
  9. No Tweets just conversations : Yes, there are people who believe in the power of a conversation. The Phone, WhatsApp, BBM, Gtalk, FB Chat are passé and Twitter is the place to have long conversations.
  10. Narcissism: You love yourself and people love you too or that’s what you believe, so promote yourself on Twitter ‘Andheri folks, I’m here at Shopper’s Stop. Drop by and say hello’. ‘Yayy, I now have 1000 followers’. ‘Kisi ke paas Dominos ke online coupons hain to de do please’ or simply keep changing your profile pictures every few hours!

  1. That was a fun -ten post Shilpa – I have a twitter account, but I long in once a year (or couple of years)- Now I am intrigued (sply since I just read Roshni’s post on her favorite tweets)

  2. I have a twitter account but I rarely use it ! I agree about one thing though – you ask for info and twitter gives it to you – I planned my trip to quebec city 2 yrs back based on the answers I had got in response to my tweets !

    1. You are already so popular on Twitter BG… I see that you win so many twitter contests (and other blogging contests) too! You dont need these 10 Cs 😀

  3. Interesting and informative post. I do have Twitter account but I never log on to it I never knew that twitter has so much to do, or may be I am ‘addicted’ to FB I will make a new beginning.

  4. I like it more than FB and find it informative than FB.Last night i was reading the tweets till 11.45. I still hav’nt explored much of its features and was clueless about many of things you have posted here.

  5. I was not much of a tweeter until the atoz challenge happened, my favourite thing to do on twitter was always, reading the umpteen number of weird and whacky posts people make!

  6. I use my Twitter these days just to post the blog links. And before that, it was redundant. I do wish to get more active but dont get time from work and FB!

  7. I don’t use twitter. Just one FB is taking up so much time!! So, I have made a vow to reduce the time on social networks 🙂 But I do use it occasionally if I have to send a direct message to someone… It’s easy to do that in Twitter.

  8. I am a twitter challenged person Shilpa !!

After that like u I also Linked Blog or public FB posts to twitter . I NEVER LIKED TWITTER .. Loved ur fun way of saying it all > I got bored by tweets in this blog post and twitter to door ki baat hai 😀
    Liked ur post though

  9. I don’t have a twitter account and I never read any tweets. Few blog posts I read did give me insight into what the whole thing is about but never got inspired enough to join that world 🙂

  10. My kal ki tweet reads “Very Hungry” 😀

    *facepalm* moment? 😉

Kal pehle ke, “Fat! Too Much!” 😀

    *facepalm* moment2? 😉

This morning my timelien was filled with Raja Sen’s Retweet of hundred and ten tweets where ppl were busy telling their 5 fav directors. I was so irritated I switched off my twitter but like u I too am a reader!!!

  11. I love twitter. I love it especially during live events to see what other people are saying about it, and for joking around with my friends that I don’t always see.

    1. Aha! You do it too, Sharmila! Isn’t it fun… some of the tweet are really funny and give you so many laugh out loud moments! 🙂
Thanks… glad you enjoyed reading this 🙂

  12. I recently got hooked to twitter. I logged into twitter to get latest buzz around the world. Also u forgot to mention about twitter contests…you know, although being a infrequent user I won one sling bag, one t-shirt and a copy of ‘ Those pricey Thakur girls’ through random contests in twitter 😀

    1. Oh there are a lot more things about Twitter… the facts and figures tweets, the celebrity tweets, the tweets from organizations, the promo tweets, the ‘follow me and gain 639 followers’ tweets… I just mentioned the 10 that caught my fancy 😀
Wow… you won so many goodies… I have never participated in a Twitter contest! Must explore that! Thanks for sharing, Nibedita!

  13. I use Twitter, just as you do, automatic posting of blog links. Sometimes a few retweets. But I do catch up on what others are tweeting 🙂 And I notice the same things you have written a out 🙂

  14. It’s true and it’s something that I don’t get about Twitter. Some people post really funny things (such as those in my post) and then some people think that tweeting what they are doing the whole day is very interesting! It’s just amazing that EVERY Monday you see the same groans about it being Monday! I wonder if they realize how boring it all is!

    1. I agree with you about these Monday tweets… I believe that those who complain about Mondays don’t love their jobs or don’t like what they are doing! For me, a Monday is a new week to do so much and also to return back to the routine 😀

  15. I don’t use twitter much, but just started to tweet my blogposts. I do read a lot of tweets…ha ha…really? people tweet such silly things too? Thank god it restricts the no.of words used..else people will even write stories!

  16. I tweet daily, enjoy the conversations with like minded people. Get some funny ones trying to spam the TL but then there are all kinds of people in this world 🙂 Liked your post a lot.

  17. I love to use Twitter to share people’s posts (mine too!) but not much else. However, I love that it was through Twitter that people reached out in times of crisis and calamity. Like every thing else online, I’m wary of getting addicted to it. Blogging is bad enough! 😛

  18. Arre… you forgot us ‘gyani’ babas and matas! We share so much philosophy yaar… and all for free! Ek mention to banta tha na! 🙁 🙁

As for how I use twitter… sporadic, and in fits… just like everything else in my life! Will be active on it for 2-3 days… do a lot of RTs, follow some new people, unfollow some others whose tweets I got bored of… then forget for days that Twitter even exists! And the cycle repeats itself.

  19. Aha,twitter.
I am addicted to twitter.I spend a lot of time there and enjoy every moment spent.
However,I find there to be two kinds …
One who write and create discussion.
One who only comment on tweets they follow.
