Lessons of Life

I can’t even begin to tell you about the hardships I’ve had in my life. They’ve hit me like waves lashing against the boulders. One wave disappeared and another one shaped up to knock me down again.

I am glad that I had these hard times. They turned the wounds into wisdom, struggle into sapience.

They helped me to move ‘people I know’ into ‘people I knew’… the ones who put me in tough times and the ones who left me in tough times.

But I will always cherish the ones who were there with me despite the tough times.

  1. They helped me to move ‘people I know’ into ‘people I knew’… the ones who put me in tough times and the ones who left me in tough times…………….to make me a tough person , I am today.

    a hard-hitting drabble.

  2. Another gem from your end Shilpa. I remember recently i was teaching management students a theory called SET( Social Exchange Theory) which highlighted the same principles which you highlighted in your post. Some people stay with us and some leaves us when their motive is fulfilled 🙂

  3. Lovely post, it is very important that we get rid of all the ‘toxic relationships’ in our lives as they end up poisoning our lives in more ways than one. Good for you that managed to get rid of them and have moved on.

  4. Wisdom and understanding helps you move on from those toxic relationships in life. A person is better off without people like that in your life. Life is too short to not be happy and be with people who make you happy. Loved this post because it mirrors some of the decisions I have made in life. Awesome post filled with so much truth. ♥

    1. Thank you so much Kathy and am so glad that you believe in this thought and have made it a way of life for you! Hugs ♥

    1. Would love to know the points you disagree on, Pratikshya!
Thanks for tagging, but am afraid, I am not participating in this contest! 😛

    1. I know, it is easier said than done, but when we let go of such toxic relationships, we do ourselves a big favour… it gives us that inner peace and calm and helps us focus on positive things better!

  5. I guess everyone can relate to this short but powerful post. Better to let them go, than to keep them in you heart or your mind allowing them to hurt you again and again.

    1. ‘…allowing them to hurt you again and again’..I liked the way you articulated this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Rekha 🙂

  6. Hard times are good in a way as it makes us tough. At a certain point of time we have to let go of people who pull us down and surround ourselves by people who appreciate us and help us grow. Good one Shilpa !

  7. Powerful advice there in your precise and strong dabble! Move on to the people who love you for you irrespective of the times…and move on from the rest!

  8. Your post made me think a lot. Hard times are great teachers. But I think forgiveness is a greater teacher certainly one that brings a lot of peace.

  9. i know the feeling… have seen unbelievably ridiculous betrayals in my life.. stuff that has broken me down to bits at times. But I’m glad that i got up from the rubble and more importantly, that i finally realized who were worth retaining in my life.

  10. People teach us the most, don’t they? I’m beginning to understand how I should only love my closest friends and let others be just a part of that social circle that really doesn’t matter.

  11. very nice!!!! that’s why we must surround our self with people who make us happy, people who make us laugh, people who do not take advantage of us……they are the only ones worth keeping in our life…

  12. When I read this post, I felt an immediate connect because like many people have expressed here, I too know the feeling. We all have gone through stuff in our life that has brought us pain, difficulties, terrible agony and heartache. The people who help us through it are the ones who matter, who show us that the way forward is to pass on that gift of love at the right moment to others who need it to move on too. Most importantly, we also get to know those who are truly worth retaining in our life. This is a beautiful post, Shilpa and this took me back to my own life.

    1. Thanks a lot, Swapna. So glad that you connect with this post so much. Agree with your thoughts. Tough times are big teachers!

  13. Beautiful Shilpa and wow, you’ve achieved so much. What’s life wo struggle? Guess, life is the biggest teacher and I am at the cross road of life, struggling to find ma mark..crisis of sort. Guess! I gotta take a leaf from u:)

    1. Oh yes, life is a big teacher! Wishing you all the very best as you achieve your dreams and goals, Vishal! 🙂
