She sat huddled in the corner, hugging her knees as the tears streamed down her face, quite quietly.

He looked up from the book he was reading every once in a while but made no attempt to console her.

He knew that today she didn’t need him to hold her but just let her be!

A Word to the Wise

  1. Understanding is important. I can’t, however, imagine sitting in someones presence and crying without wanting some response from them. Some comfort. Some acknowledgement that I was suffering.

  2. Awww- that is a sad image though … wonder what happened to her. Crying alone is sad… You bring the scene so well alive, Shilpa..:-)

  3. The importance of understanding, in marriage or in any relationship, is brought out well by your 55er and by Richelle E. Goodrich’s quote.
The sad truth is, everybody wants to be understood, but only a few genuinely try to understand others.

  4. That’s actually such a practical thing to do. Sometimes, we don’t want to talk or be talked to. All that we want is some me time, just a few minutes to be with oneself and settle down at peace. Understanding that is very important. And yes, understanding is one of the most important pillars in marriage !! Well said, Shilpa ji 🙂

  5. Very true. I think it is important early on in a marriage to lay down guidelines for each other in conflict situations. As you mentioned, some people need some time off. Some others need to be pacified immediately. Many more go quiet for a day or two.

  6. Hehe I just came from Naba’s blog where her protagonist left her husband because he did not let her be! Yes, in marriage, one must know when to just let the other person be and when to console and your partner requires a comforting hug. And this comes, I guess, after years of being and understanding with each other.

  7. I think this is a philosophy that can make life so much easier. When you grant your family and friends understanding, they become so much more comfortable with you. They can relax, be themselves with you because they know even when they err, they will not be judged. It’s a beautiful gift.

  8. Shilpa well picturised and so true at times we need a hsoulder, at times we need to be let alone and if the spouse understands the difference, its superb

  9. Wondering what was troubling her that made her to cry so much. Wish there was another way of understanding he could have displayed; either by bringing her a cup of tea or a scented towel to wipe her face. Can’t get her teary face out of my mind, very well written, Shilpa.

  10. mutual understanding is so important in a relationship. Over the years, when you stay with the same person, one kinda starts reading their minds 🙂

  11. There are days like that when understanding, space is the best way to a beautiful relationship. Beautifully said, Shilpa and hope many couples understand that letting be self bring couples together:)

  12. I don’t think a marriage (or any relationship) can thrive when there is no understanding. And you have to be willing to try to understand, even if you have no real world knowledge of what your partner is experiencing.
    Thanks for the post.

  13. Understanding each other is very important.. but this story tugged my heart just a little.. because when I see someone sad or crying – my first instinct is to hug them.

  14. Just my opinion, but he seems a little hard hearted. If someone is crying, it would be my first instinct to offer comfort. On the other hand, it would depend on the personalities involved.

  15. DA Vinci Vaporizer evaluations also highlight its integral storage pocket.
It is the better thing for everyone who is made a decision to lead a healthier lifestyle.
The method in which this occurs is pretty complex but they can be explained in simple terms.
