A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose!

Things are as they are, not as they should be!

A is for Awkward #AtoZChallenge @AprilA2Z

My theme for this year’s Blogging from A to Z April Challenge is Feelings and Emotions from A to Z in 55 Words. Today, A is for Awkward.

A

55 Fiction

I am the go-to guy for my Mom regarding the slangs! She can AMA!

BTW, that’s ‘Ask Me Anything’!

Yesterday, she texted, “What’s WTF?”

After an uncomfortable silence, I answered, “It’s’ Wow! That’s Fabulous’!”

Had to change the track of our conversation, so I texted, “Let’s go out for dinner!”

“WTF!!” she replied with a smiley!

Join me in enjoying blogs from fellow A to Zers… AJ Lauer,Β Arlee Bird, Arpita MuditΒ today! Do share some blog love with them too! πŸ™‚

  1. My mother knew what that meant so I think I dogged a bullet there..lol I had a person once tell me that they thought LOL meant loser online and when someone would write that to him he thought he was being made fun of.

    1. Lser Online is a cool one! Heard it for the first time! I remember reading a friend’s father writing LOL on a Facebook status about the sad demise of his friend. His daughter immediately added a comment clarifying that he meant LOL as Lots of Love.:P

  2. Hahaha..that will make her conversations with other people interesting! πŸ˜› I know my aunt thought LOL was Lots of Love for a long time. That was not nearly as awkward though. Nicely done! πŸ™‚

    1. Hope she doesnt get into trouble πŸ˜€ True, LOL is mistaken as lots of love pretty often and Cheryl above mentioned about it being understood as Loser Online too πŸ˜›

    1. Thanks EM. Glad you enjoyed reading this attempt πŸ™‚
Looking forward to read your A post! It’s not live as yet, I believe!

    1. Of course, this is a made up story! More than my Mom, I would be mortified, if she used this on some unsuspecting soul, in my presence πŸ˜€

  3. your post reminds me on my mum’s SMS. I can barely read them, I feel so outdated with the abbreviations she uses, sometimes I just call her to decipher the message. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks a lot, Kajal! Wish you were doing this challenge too. It would be so much more fun. Miss you!

  4. It’s great that your Mother can AYA….you are a thoughtful daughter to clean up the slang. Opportunity for further lessons might occur at the WTF dinner. Your Mom is already ahead of the game…she texts. Great start with your 55 Fiction…yes, I know…but it could happen!

    1. LOL@ WTF dinner!! πŸ˜€ This is not my story, just a story in first person. Yes, my Mom texts et al, but she is not into slangs as yet πŸ˜€

    1. I have read the same thing on a FB status by a friend’s father. The poor girl clarified in the comment! πŸ˜›

  5. LOL. That’s funny. Not a good idea because his mom could get into a lot of embarrassing situations πŸ˜›

    1. I know. But it saved him from the temporarily! I hope his mom forgives him when she gets to know the real meaning πŸ˜€

  6. A gr8 start! Yeah, a bit awkward but with quick thinking you managed to make it less awkward, at least for the moment πŸ˜‰

  7. I’ve only just found out what OMG means! When I was a youngster we had simple and sweet acronyms like SWALK and naughtier ones like NORWICH! LOL!!
By the way, I’m doing the A-Z Challenge for the first time this year and my A is up and ready! Looks like fun.

    1. While I knew about SWALK, I had to look up for NORWICH πŸ˜€
Hopping over to check out your A post! See you around, Keith πŸ™‚

  8. hahah! Hilarious! WTF! the Witty u! The best one I have read today! AMA – that sounded a jargon initially. I would refer to your blog for any such clarifications. Winks Winks!

    1. Glad that this made you smile and laugh, Ajay! πŸ™‚
LOL πŸ˜€ I am no authority on this new age slangs, I get my clarifications from my son πŸ˜€ Now dont get any ideas, 55 fiction above is not my story πŸ˜€

  9. LOL! Reminds me of my own mom. Somewhere along the way she picked up on the phrase “shoot your wad” and thought it referred to a wad of bills. As in, “I really shot my wad today at the mall.” So far no one’s had the heart to clarify it for her.

  10. Haha! A similar conversation happened between me and my Dad. It’s definitely awkward! Loved your post, Shilpa! Coming back tomorrow πŸ™‚

  11. Hahahahah – so funny – Can imagine your mum happily wandering around now using her new “wtf” to everyone:-) hahahah Great kick-off dear Shilpa:-)

    1. Not my mom here though, but God forbid if that was the case, it would be one hilarious-super awkward moment which would result in me-being-killed if she ever gets to know the real meaning! πŸ˜€ Thanks Eli πŸ™‚

  12. Heh! I am so glad that my mother never got into the internet. I am giggling while imagining your mother saying “wtf” at every opportunity! πŸ˜†

    1. Hi Eunice! Well, I am glad that my Mom is not on internet too. πŸ˜€
PS : This is a story that I made up πŸ˜› But yes, if she was using the word the way it was explained to her, it would result in some comical and fun situations πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks Jenny. Glad that this made you smile.
That was precisely the reason for 55 word limit. Makes it easier for me as well as for the readers πŸ˜‰

  13. Hhahaha Shilpa. Only you could come up with that .. Awkward ..very awkward. You started #atozchallege with laughter.. ty πŸ™‚

  14. That’s a hilarious and very well written post Shilpa. Thanks for the good laughs πŸ™‚ Looking forward to reading the posts πŸ™‚

    1. I know, our moms are not keen on our ‘bad’ ways πŸ˜€ Thanks Inderpreet, you are too generous πŸ™‚

  15. An interesting 55F with a wonderful message wrapped in it! Loved it, Shilpa! πŸ™‚
I like your idea of doing a 55F for A-z challenge… simple, effective and impactful too πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks Rohini! Glad you enjoyed it. 55 words is easier for me and great for the readers who have to visit so many blogs too. A win-win situation πŸ˜‰

  16. I am laughing out loud (that’s LOL for the new generation who have forgotten how to talk long-hand).

My mother, who at the height of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” phase, had no idea who MJ was, probably would not have picked up on this . I once made the mistake of explaining to her exactly what SNAFU meant, at a champagne brunch on Mother’s Day, no less. Yeah, I’m still wincing 30 years later, just thinking about that one.

Concise and brilliant as always, Shilpa. In fact, I think my comment is longer than your post! *LOL*

    1. LOL πŸ˜€ We are so used to typing LOL that one day we might even say LOL in our conversations than actually laughing out loud!
I am still laughing and imagining the scene with your Mom πŸ˜€
Thanks a lot, LuAnn. Love you and yes, your comment is indeed longer than my post πŸ˜€

  17. I did not know what AMA meant, but I know wtf. However, I guess I am the odd ball out because I do not use a lot of acronyms or slang in texting. I actually like to still write words out. 😎

    1. I agree with you, writing words is way better than these slangs. There’s less room for misinterpretation and everyone is on the same page. πŸ™‚

  18. Ha ha ha!!! My Mom waits for me to visit to shower me with all kinds of doubts regarding her phone and tab. It’s kind of cute, though!

    1. Hi Jen, thanks so much for reading this old post of mine. Loved your valentine exchange post. It’s hilarious πŸ˜€
      Hahaha… kids!! πŸ˜€
