With his pen hovering over the notepad, the waiter asked, “Super Salad?”

I said, “Sure, why not!”

He gave me a frosty look and repeated with emphasis, “Su… per… Salad?”

“Yes, I’d like a Super Salad!”, I answered pleasantly.

He looked daggers at me, when my friend nudged and whispered, “He’s asking, Soup or Salad?”

Join me in enjoying blogs from fellow A to Zers… Monica Deshpande and Mayuri today! Do share some blog love with them too! :)

  1. Hilarious. This really happened to a friend of mine at a consulate when she went to get a visa. (She wrote a post about it.) The clerk was telling everyone waiting to get a visa that they all should submit “virginal documents”. It took a while for people to understand he is asking for original documents.

    1. OMG!! That’s sooo funny! πŸ˜€
I heard about this story of ‘Super Salad’ in one of our Communication Skills workshop. The trainer gave this as one of the example and thinking about it always brings a smile πŸ™‚

  2. Hahahaha this reminds me of an advertisement that used to come sometime back. It was about some washing powder where in a guy stilling in a restaurant says, “Maine kaha Daal do(Lentil soup), aur waiter ne daal diya (he poured it on me)”- pointing towards his white shirt! πŸ˜€

  3. This has happened to me so many times. I can never understand different accents, specially happens when I visit Chinese restaurants. Good one πŸ™‚

  4. After reading this (found you from a tweet) I had to go and read all of your other posts, thankfully they were short! In my mind, this is the perfect blog to have on A To Z. Short, sweet, to the point and highly amusing/enjoyable/thought provoking and just plain fun. So glad I followed the tweet! And now I’m following you. 1. Thank you so much, Lisa for your visit here and the kind words too. Glad you enjoyed reading the posts here. Looking forward to read you too πŸ™‚

  5. Ahhh! Misunderstandings due to accents and different dialects. They usually make some funny moments. I wonder what goes into a Supper Salad.

  6. Ha ha ! Been there, and done that πŸ˜›

There have been instances when I misunderstand and few others when I am misunderstood. More recently, when I said – “Full tank” to the person at the gas station, he pondered and asked me – “For how much do you want me to fill up?” 😯
