Hola People!! A very Happy 2019 to you! How have you been! Hope the new year has started well for all of you.

As for me, it’s good to back at this space. Last few months have been terribly hectic with work and life and naturally those got prioritized first and my baby blog here got ignored completely.

2018 was a great year in terms of learnings and experiences. And now we have entered the New Year 2019. It is an exciting time for new beginnings. It’s the time when everyone is brimming with hope, positivity and optimism. It is that time of the year when we love to make resolutions, to change some bad habits and/or follow some good ones. It also the time to reflect.

I learnt about the Word of the Year – WOTY concept few years ago and loved it.

Do we need a Word of the Year? My answer is, Yes!

  • It is a wonderful way to set intentions and theme for the New Year, or any other life event for that matter.
  • It helps to serve as a gentle reminder to guide our focus for the year.
  • It helps shape all the decisions that we take in creating the changes we desire in our life.

Earlier this week, as I was listing down my resolutions and goals for 2019 in my notebook, one word that kept buzzing in my head was FOCUS.

Lately, I feel like I’m being pulled in so many directions. I have so many things on my plate and want to do a lot more too. At times, all the work-home stuff gets overwhelming and I sometimes feel scatterbrained. This happens when I like to believe that I am disciplined and organized.

FOCUS is the word that expresses what I hope for this year. Also it is a word that would inspire me to push past my limits and do more and accomplish more.

Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work in hand. The Sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus' joaquim

Here’s what it means to me to live a year by the word FOCUS:

  • Regular exercise and I are not best of friends. I can’t stick to any exercise regime for more than a few days, except swimming which I love but isn’t feasible for most of the year. I am determined to change this and already taking baby steps in this direction.
  • Aah! For the first time in so many years I faltered on my reading goals last year. I failed miserably and felt miserable all these months for not picking up a book. So reading more books is definitely on my agenda this year. More about in the next post.
  • I want to focus on my spiritual side and let my vibrations rise.
  • I’d like to explore new opportunities, learn new things and be the best version of myself.
  • It isn’t a secret that I have been struggling to blog over the last few months. I am hoping to write more and engage more this year at this space of mine.
  • I’d like to focus on the good and positive and stay away from the drama and negativity of any kind.

2019 is going to be filled with so many changes and new things. I know that if I don’t FOCUS on specific tasks and on what is important everything will be thrown out of whack.

So FOCUS it is for me.

Have you ever picked a word of the year? If you have one for this year, do share it in the comments below!

  1. Loved your WOTY. Focus is a must and I guess that’s exactly what I need at this point in time. Unable to focus on anything. I was also thinking of doing a WOTY post. But I think it’ll need some more time. For me the WOTY will be Calm. There’s been a lot of running around and multitasking.

  2. FOCUS is the perfect word, Shilpa! It is only focus that helps us give our best for whatever it is that we do at the moment. It is equal to ‘Living in the moment’, because when you focus you are being in that moment, giving it your very best and eventually feeling happy with yourself!

Wish you a really beautiful year, Shilp! <3

  3. What a lovely goal for 2019, Shilpa! I hope and wish that you may find the best version of yourself this year and that all your goals are met just the way you intend them to be! Best wishes and really hoping to see more of your lovely posts in 2019. Happy blogging! 🙂

  4. Thanks Shilpa, I’d like to steal that word FOCUS. I too get scattered in doing too much and achieving very little for ME. As I write, I’ve written down on one of the endless scraps of paper on my desk ‘Focus on Fitness’. I like the idea of raising my vibrations also.

All good wishes for meeting your goals! May 2019 be your year for doing just this!

  5. It’s so good to see you back. And hopefully with that wonderful WOTY we will get to read some amazing 55’ers from you this year.
I wish you a fabulous year ahead and hope you knock off all your goals.

  6. Coincifentally, FOCUS happens to be my chosen WOTY for this year. Not that I’ve done a post on it or anything. I haven’t blogged much in 2018, my health isn’t all that good, so hope to focus on these aspects this year. I think gaining focus is half the battle won. Let’s hope we both retain our “focus” through the year! All the best to you Shilpa!

  7. Thats a fantastic word Shilpa and I feel you will do it full justice.

Tell me about not sticking to an exercise schedule – struggling since 2 months to get back into it and just not doing it!!

Wish you a very happy and productive 2019 ahead 🙂

And yes we have to meet this year!

  8. Same pinch Shilpa! What a coincidence…my WOTY this year is “Focus” too 🙂 . I discovered it while working on the plans and goals for 2019. Hahaha…
Wishing you a focused execution of all the activities that you have planned for the year so as to make the life and its experience, a cherished one.

  9. Dear Shilpa,

Fantastic word, given the times we live of low attention spans and cluttered social media spaces. Yes, I find the social media space and virtual world has taken away so much from our precious, real time interactions; and being a blogger/content writer there is no way to disconnect. Though I have Ito a great extent, but it still continues to challenge me.

    Oops sorry for the rant.

I think focus is so perfect as it translates to being present in the moment, being mindful and doing a few things, but doing them well.

All the very best, Shilpa for your WOTY. May it bring about glorious transformations. 🙂

And yes, I’ll always be grateful for being my saviour in 2018, when my blog was hacked. Thank you so much. Means a lot. <3

  10. So relatable! 🙂 “Focus” is a word I need to embrace, as well. Sometimes, with lots going on all at once, I feel paralyzed and don’t accomplish much of anything. Thanks for the kickstart. Happy New Year to you and yours.

  11. Good to see you back here, Shilpa. FOCUS is a good choice. I am hoping to read more from you this year, especially your 100-word stories. Do write them.
May you have a focussed and blessed year ahead. 🙂 <3

  12. A good choice, Shilpa and as I read what led you to pick Focus, it makes a lot of sense. Good luck focussing on all the things that matter to you. You know I will be around cheering you!

I didn’t pick a WOTY. I mean not in writing a post or sharing out loud. But then , I am introvert and I find it hard to talk about myself so I am trying to be courageous this year. Call it if you may, Courage will what I will aim for. I will be ready to share my thoughts and confront if needed. Thank you for the nudge to talk. I wouldn’t have shared otherwise.

  13. Happy New Year!

Before reading the WOTY posts, I was thinking I am alone in thinking that 2018 could have been better! I guess we all need to focus more on things that make us feel better about ourselves and the world around us.

  14. FOCUS!!! I loved the idea of WOTY and when I thought about having one for myself, it was the same as your, FOCUS as at the moment, I have endless things in my plate to focus on. My kids are in the learning phase, I need to focus on their requirements – physical, mental, emotional and it is, of course, an ongoing process for a mother. When it comes to the professional front, I have many pending articles, book reviews, and whatnot. But what is missing is the focus. I get so distracted and end up piling up the tasks. Need to really work on it.

  15. Loved the idea and am inspired to do so. I will pick prioritise which may be similar to focus that you picked. I too feel I get pulled in different directions and need to organise and plan what’s more important to cover.

  16. Agree with most of the things you have shared shilpa:) health remains my priority this year too and yes focus is an apt word, this year i took a baby step of continuing education and am glad I cleared the entrance and the interview, waiting for classes to begin and excited to be a part time student again, while continuing my work. Hoping to travel and read more this year, i too have failed miserably with regard to reading:) thanks for inspiring.
