Things are as they are, not as they should be!

My Anti-Bucket List

Lists are my life-lines. I live my life in lists. To-Do Lists, Grocery Lists, Guests Lists, Wish Lists… and of course the Bucket Lists which has hundreds of things which I have not done and would love to do them before I die!vlsmY7tCuXHe (1) Recently, I came across the concept of Anti-Bucket List!

I liked the idea very much. I am all for exploring and experiencing the thrill and adventure of something different and new. But I am also clear about my likes, my preferences and I know my fears too. And I certainly have overgrown many things. Also I know that there are so many things that just can’t be done.

So, here’s a list of things I hope to NEVER do before I die.

  • I will never color or dye my hair. I have earlier got my hair highlighted with red, copper and burgundy streaks a couple of times. But no more artificial colors for my hair. I am falling in love with my greys.
  • I will never deceive or hurt others or cheat on any one in any relationship.
  • I will never stop believing in hope. Because miracles happen everyday.
  • I will never abandon family and friends during a difficult time in their life. Never ever. Have been there, so I know.
  • I’d never be a doormat in any relationship. I hope never to forget myself and my self-respect in any relationship.
  • I would never want to lose my passion for reading books.
  • I’d never eat any kind of bizarre food, even though I am getting a bit experimental in trying out new foods and flavors. But I’d like to stay clear of those animal brains, tongues, livers, worms etc. Ewwww
  • I’d never smoke or do drugs.
  • I’d prefer not to get addicted to anything. I should be able to stop doing something whenever I want.
  • I will never give up on my dreams. I may get flustered or uninspired at times, but never ever give up.
  • I’d never do extreme sports like sky diving, bungee jumping, para-sailing or ride on a roller coaster though scuba diving and a ride in a hot air balloon are in my bucket list.
  • I will never write a full-length novel.
  • I will never commit suicide. I have always wondered about those who do and it disturbs me to no end that they must be so sad and unhappy from life and its circumstances that ending their lives was the only solution or escape in front of them. No, surviving and then thriving despite the odds ie surthriving would it be for me, always.
  • I’d never learn to drive again. Have failed thrice and I have kind of made peace with this.
  • I will never get into a credit card debt. Oh, what a trap it is!
  • I’d not go for any body piercings other than my ears. I am indecisive about a tattoo though.

This list is neither comprehensive nor completely serious. I could have probably added more to this list, but a lot of them are things that go without saying, like I will never kill someone!

Now it’s your turn. What will you NEVER do? What would go in your Anti-Bucket List?

  1. I like this anti bucket list. Almost all of them would be mine too. I am no fan of tattoos and body piercings. And the suicide thing is terrible. Imagine feeling so lonely and no one to reach out to. It is the saddest thing to do.

    1. Aha! Birds of a feather…
Suicide is so sad. I just wish that we all realize that everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.
Thanks Lata, glad you liked this anti-bucket list.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Cathy. They made my heart smile. Would love to see your anti-bucket list too 🙂

  2. Golly, quite a thing to think in this particular way. I would never knowingly harm anyone or thing (including in nature); I would never betray a secret; I would never give up on anyone; and, I would never say never! Lovely post Shilpa thank you!

    1. It’s so wonderful to note that we are on the same page on so many things, Susan. I am so glad to meet you virtually. Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to read. Appreciate it 🙂

    1. Isnt this ant-bucket list thing interesting!?! Well, you must certainly make yours and I would love to read it, Ramya!

  3. Hi Shilpa, found you via Rahul’s blog. Most of the things on your anti-bucket list match mine. I am going to steal this concept and make it a topic of one my blog posts in future 🙂

    1. Sure, go ahead and make your anti-bucket list, Rachna. Would love to read yours.
It’s good to see you here, Rachna. Thanks for dropping by 🙂

    1. Thanks, Vidya. So glad that liked this post idea.
Would love to see your anti-bucket list.
Hahaha, you are a sweetheart, Vidya ♥

  4. What a great idea. If no one makya bloghop I may blog on this topic (with credit to you) as I need some time to think about it. For starters I will never stop reading. Even if I lose my sight. I will never knowingly betray someone’s trust.

    1. Please go ahead and write your anti-bucket list, Alana. I would love to read about the things that you’d never do.
Yes, I seriously wish to read like forever. Thanks for dropping by!

    1. Aah! Driving!! I dont know why I am so dense about it.
But you must learn it. It is so very important, you are not dependent on anybody and can go anywhere without a second thought.
Blogging is not so very addictive for me now. You can see from the number of posts I do in a month. SIGH

  5. I love this concept of an Anti-bucket list and will try compiling a list too as even I am obssessed with lists 😉
I am also in love with the salt and pepper look and eagerly awaiting my hair to turn white, much against everyone else;s horror at my excitement for it 😛

  6. Well I am a person who has and will try new things to taste the life. But sometimes it cost a lot. Like recently few months back I have traveled to Pondicherry now called as Puducherry in South India. The french colonies and the host of my hotel was good. But for evening we thought of trying a new place to freak out and, we were totally freaked out where the crowd was shockingly dangerous and over friendly whereas we never experienced the same anywhere in Pondicherry on our Trip.

So now onwards- Try tried and suggested places to explore. going out of the way is not always safe and Jolly 🙁

  7. Ahhh, a few days ago, I was toying with the idea of a similar list – not things I would never do but more like things that I used to do but should now stop. Like running through corridors (yes, I do that and now it feels a little silly)

And I’m embarrassed to admit, there are quite a few things on your list that I’ve actually done, No, I will not tell you which ones 😛

  8. A bucket list is one thing. But an anti-bucket list is another thing entirely. But you have given me an idea for several blog posts, thanks for that LOL. Nice to ‘meet’ you and see your blog.

  9. Anti – bucket list is an interesting concept and your list is precise, Shilpa. Though I would have loved to see, I am not going to kill anyone too, because I thought about it for mine.

I’m thinking of some of it myself.
I am not going to dye my hair too, but I’d love to color some strands. That’s for later though.

I’m not going to push myself to understand everything. I’ll take the time.

I’m not going to read horror stories anytime soon nor will I watch horror movies in my lifetime. I’m good with other genres though and I’m okay to accept it.

I will always argue with my sister and I will never miss a chance at that.

I’m liking this idea. Let me see if I can write about it, first in my journal though.

  10. Interesting! I would love to make an anti-bucket list. But I have never even got around to make a bucket list yet. There are many things which I would never do and so far my life is a testimony of the list of things which I would never do. 🙂 Since I’m a list- addict, I will give this list a try. Many things which you listed here will find a space in mine too. But I do want to try bungee jumping and skydiving, though I know I will never do that. 😀

  11. Such a fascinating concept, Shilpa. I wonder what my anti-bucket list would consist of 😀

Although, from experience, I can tell you that the urge to commit suicide could happen to the best of us. And sometimes it is not within our control.

I know for sure I will NEVER bungee jump or sky dive. Just NO! 😛

  12. Hmm..now this is something new to me!
The things I will never do…one of them is bunjee jumping, then there’s also body-piercing, tattooing, too. Driving included…coz I have a tough time sitting in the passenger seat, so you can imagine how I will be in a driver’s seat! 😛

I need to think of some more here!

    1. Anti bucket list. Well I don’t have a lot of things in it. I will never stop writing. I want to do one podcast in Marathi. And yes, I want to do a lot for kids and women.

  13. Hey! This is amazing. Would definitely going to pen down my own anti bucket list. And I just love yours too ⭐️

  14. I am sure it is not easy to pen this anti bucket list Shilpa but you did, that’s a victory in itself. I would say never say never, buddy who knows you become a best selling author tmrw or try bungee jumping one optimistic day.

  15. This idea is quite interesting, I too am going to prepare my anti-bucket list soon. Few of the points I too can say I absolutely relate with but skydiving and bungee-jumping are definitely going to remain in my bucket list hehehe. I still have a few more colors to experiment with on my hair.

  16. I have also my anti bucket list which I follow strictly. Some of the pointers are same. Glad to know about your list. This one is really an interesting read.

  17. Hahaha…After reading this I was really thinking that if I have to make anti bucket list then what all to be included..oh that list is going to be long one too!!

  18. That’s a very unique take on a bucket list. Well, now, to think of it, there a few things I won’t do. But the kind of person, I anyway end up doing those in one way or another. So, my list is a work in progress I guess. This definitely made for a good read.

  19. Why not para sailing. It is less daunting than sky diving. Some of your points are so beautiful. Being with family, never hurting… Something we all should have in our list. Ah driving… Driving in India scared me for life… So much that I am struggling to do it here, even though it’s much simpler and easy.

  20. Very interesting list.. Hmm, what would I never…. You got me thinking here…. I honestly dont know (except from the obvious). I will get back to you on this

  21. Great concept — you should do a blog hop for this, Shilpa or a blog-train/chain! I would include a few things on your list in mine. In fact, now I am tempted to make my own anti-bucket list. It’s a great point to reflect on – to ponder on what we’ll never do…or think we’ll never do. Often, I’ve come across situations where, the moment I think “never” I find myself having to do it.

    Lists are my lifeline too!
