A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose!

Things are as they are, not as they should be!

Realization

I fell in love with her the moment I saw her. I was happy to have her, my best friend, who followed me like a little shadow.

And then things changed between us. I started resenting her. The comparing, the labelling… by all around me, got on my nerves, though her love for me was unconditional.

One afternoon, I heard Mom’s screams. The little one had fallen down the stairs and was unconscious.

In those few long moments at the hospital, something changed.

I walked home holding her hand tightly and felt glad that I still had a little sister.

  1. The realization came in the middle of a disaster. The elder sister ‘s resentment towards the younger one was weak and her love was stronger. such a sweet little story.

    1. Well said, Kalpana. Fear of losing someone can be pretty hard and overwhelming! Glad you liked this story 🙂

  2. Sweet story! I don’t have sisters and have never felt the need to – I remember telling my parents when I was about 4 that I didn’t want a younger sister as I’d have to share! 😉

  3. The sibling bond has been beautifully brought out Shilpa. Although I never had a younger sister, my younger brother made sure I never missed out on the elder sister rights and duties…I cant imagine how my childhood would have been without my partner-in-mischief 🙂

    1. Haha… that’s cute!! They say brothers and sisters are as close as hands and feet… always together, always in sync 🙂

    1. Well said, fear of losing our loved ones can be very devastating and can help us know the value of our relationships! Thanks Sheela 🙂

  4. Very sweet… being the younger sister, i have see how much my elder sis did for me till I completed my education and could manage on my own.

  5. I have a little sister and I could relate to all those comparing and labelling. But sisters are definitely friends for life. I so love the way you say so much in so little words. 🙂

  6. That’s such a sweet story Shilpa. Siblings are special even though sometimes they can be a pain. I don’t have a sister but I do have an older brother.

  7. There is something about this bond. No matter how much we fight and squabble all the time, we would never be able to bear anything happening to them.. Wonderful post Shilpa.
