The guests have started arriving while I’m sifting through my engagement pictures.

A million “what ifs?” are swirling in my head.

I know it’s a tad too late to be having such thoughts. But anxiety and doubt aren’t the same thing.

I read somewhere that our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave enough to see it. And I’m seeing it clearly.

I may be called dumb or coward.

But a real coward would be the one who turns up looking every inch a bride in all her wedding finery yet doesn’t show up in the marriage.

  1. Is the bride calling off the wedding because she is forced into this marriage? Does she have another guy in mind? Is she a lesbian? Your ending throws up many questions. Loved this story

  2. I am a bit confused here.Did she run away or did she move forward. But then who really is a coward? One who runs away from facts or one who faces the consequences

  3. Your story left me a little confused. Was the bride anxious or did she have doubts and was she courageous to marry anyway or call it off? Or perhaps you meant both 🙂

  4. I am glad she realised now. Better now than never. And not showing up at your own wedding is a much bigger debacle than calling off the wedding. Nice short story! So few words and so much told!

  5. Do not worry what they will say
If you are not sure, if you have any doubts never begin a new bond.
It takes a lot of courage to listen to your instincts
but before you, run away dear bride tell the groom and face it.
    Wow Shilpa
I never write such lengthy comments… but this story speaks up for so many things & so many concepts.
    Intriguing
    Loved it.

  6. I see it as the conflict of the mind and the heart, Another piece on dilemma that the agonising girl is going through. Haven’t we all been there torn between the ifs and buts at some point in our lives?

  7. The hint that I got from your last para was that the bride, not wanting to be a coward, went through the marriage bravely.
Was that what you had in mind, Shilpa?

  8. Oh I’ve been through this twice with friends – even at the last moment, I told them to call it off, the marriage is more important than the wedding. Sadly, both of them went ahead and still pay the price for it.
