A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose!

Things are as they are, not as they should be!

May Photo A Day : Day 19 : My Favourite View

My home is my castle. And I have an OCD for keeping it spic and span, neat and clean at all points of time. Don’t believe that!?

Hope this case in point explains… After some 16 hours of bone breaking bus journey (Shimla to Jaipur), the first thing that I do after a cup of tea is, clean my home. I may wait for the cook to come, even an hour after the eleventh hour but I would never wait for the cleaning maid.

So, right from changing the bed-sheets in all the rooms, keeping all the things at their proper places, sweeping, swabbing the floor, dusting all the things, washing all the dirty clothes, washing/cleaning the bathrooms, I prefer to do all this on my own.

KG firmly believes that I was a maid in my past life and her spirit still resides in me.

I think doing things in and around the home is therapeutic for me.

When I am working on some report or even writing a blog post and I am stuck for ideas, all I have do is leave my laptop and move around in the home, pick clothes, wipe the dust off the glass table or refill water bottles… Bingo! 5 minutes later I am back to finish the pending report or post.

A neat and clean look of my home which fills me with immense satisfaction, pride and happiness is my favourite view.

  1. We are both alike in so many ways. The moment I stepped in from Mumbai, I picked up the broom and swept the entire house, put everything in place. I need to put everything in place all the time. It is an obsession bigger than reading. Imagine trying to do that with a toddler around. I am not too much fond of cooking but once the maid goes, I move around the house keeping things in place, before putting the kiddo to sleep. Another of my idiosyncrasies is to put everything in place before leaving home because I want them perfect when I am back. My hubby would tell me to leave it, who is gonna see when we are not there. He just does not get it … sometimes. But I am thankful, he keeps things on place and relatively neat πŸ™‚

    1. Ah! You too, Reema πŸ˜€
Exactly the same here… I prefer to keep everything in order before I step out and hubby has the same views (of course, he has learnt to ignore this OCD of mine!) πŸ˜€
The 2 men of our home are incorrigible and simply love to throw things around… the shoes are never on the shoe rack, the clothes can be anywhere… the junior is responding well to the training but the senior is making very slow progress πŸ™

  2. Ignore my prev comment
By mistake would have got published πŸ™
And u have a lovely home.
My mom has same habit . I don’t have OCD but I have to clean frequently as husband doesn’t bother sitting and dirtying the surroundings
    Lol
    Good day

    1. It never got published πŸ˜€
I can understand… I have 2 brats in my home too who don’t believe in keeping things at their respective places too! πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks Indrani.
It’s a part of the bullock cart… the part which is joined with the main cart on one end (the broader part) and the narrow one rests on the animal (Camel or Ox). And the shelves have been added to use it as a showcase! πŸ™‚

  3. I love your decor and color scheme, Shilpa! Those cushions and the shelf at the side for the curios! Just divine! Are you planning to put a wall-hanging over the sofa? Oops…look at me! Discussing decor now! πŸ˜€

    1. Glad you like the decor and the artifacts!
We have a large wall piece on the perpendicular wall (which is not visible in this click) so, kept the other wall naked! πŸ™‚

  4. I love the way you have done up your house, Shilpa! Beautiful! And span indeed, so very well kept! BTW I LOVE love love the design of the corner shelf placed next to the cabinet at the far end. Is it cane?

  5. Beautiful picture of your home πŸ™‚ If I have to take a pic of my workspace (which is always cluttered), I will unclutter a small part of it and click it!! Keeping things cluttered and chaotic is therapeutic for me πŸ™‚

  6. Hats off to you Shilpa! I can never do that. Ever. I have finally reached a point where I can say that out loud and not feel guilty about it. I am a housewife but I can’t keep my home neat and tidy. It is always a work in progress. After cleaning and tidying up for some time, I think what’s the point? it’s going to get messy again and I have to do this all over again! I hate this kind of repetitive work that never seems finished or complete.

Sorry for this rant. You have an absolutely lovely home! I loved the corner piece. Is it a showpiece but I can see some shelves in there.

    1. I can understand your point Maddie. I know, the work at home is never ending! While what you have shared are the views of a sane person, while what I have shared is the habit of a person suffering from a serious obsessive compulsive disorder!! So, you see, we are both ‘right’ in our own ways!

  7. Lovely room Shilpa!
I am also a big OCD. My husband always says that a house should look like it has been lived in, not spic and shiny, that people would hesitate to sit and enjoy themselves. But what to do, I am like that only. I am always two steps behind him cleaning away as he leaves.

    1. LOL πŸ˜€ Are we soul sisters!! πŸ˜€
My husband says the same thing too! He says, “when I come in, your focus is not on my face or words, but on my shoes… how dirty they are, where I would be leaving them…” πŸ˜€ πŸ˜›
      Incorrigible we both are! πŸ˜€

  8. spotless!! u have a lovely home Shilpa!

My hubby would sure wish I would do that too, but unless my maid’s specifically told me she won’t turn up, cleaning up the place myself is the last thing on my mind! and after just landing from a vacation….no way!

    hats off to you!

  9. You have a lovely place there!!!

Though I am not very particular about cleaning (my priorties have changed after having a baby but as is I have never been a very clealiness freak person) but I love clean houses. The place where we are staying presently is a mess for few reasons. Our cupboard broke in shifting and we are not buying anything till we move to our own place. Then we have numerous cartons which we have chosen not to open so this place of ours is ahem!! ahem! not very clean.

P.S. Interested in part time job ;)?

    1. When I know in advance that the bai won’t turn up I get onto jadhooing & pochaaing….between u n me (various other readers of this blog) I love doing the bai wala kaam. My mom used to make fun of me when I was a kid.

    2. I can understand!
      Part-time job… sponsor my flight tickets… I can join from tomorrow πŸ˜€
Same here, I love doing the dishes, pocha and washing clothes. Jhadoo I dont like much, so I dont do that and may do double pocha πŸ˜€
I know you are laughing out loud at that! πŸ˜€

  10. wow! that’s amazing!
I love how beautifully you have decorated the place!!
I’m no good when it comes to cleaning!! :-/
You will find books everywhere in our living room! πŸ˜€

  11. That’s one well kept home, love your decor, it is simply elegant!!
I guess many of us are bitten by the cleanliness bug, even during my school days I could study well with concentration only if all my books were arranged in a particular order and not littered all over the place πŸ˜› I always spend a few minutes each day to ensure that things are kept in the place meant for them when they are not being used… Thankfully I have a reasonably organized spouse:)

    1. Thanks Reshma. Glad you liked our home πŸ™‚
You are truly blessed since both of you share the same passion for neatness and orderliness. πŸ™‚

  12. Such an elegant place. Now I know what kind of a person you would be in reality πŸ™‚
You know, since our home is truly the reflection of our personality.

  13. oh nooo…..I didn’t read or see this post…do’t make me feel guilty, girl. Already am dead with hubby’s nagging that I keep a mess of the home…:( you know, it is an art. I keep a clean home but not spic and span…and my lil one, don’t ask the mess she creates. ok now, even before completing this comment, I have gone spring cleaned my living room πŸ˜›
However, you have got a beautiful home πŸ™‚ And you are doing a splendid job keeping it.
