“My days can barely be distinguished from one another. I’ve just finished cleaning, laundry, cooking and I’ll have to do them all again, tomorrow. How do I come to terms with the endless nature of these household chores?” I whined and asked him.

“In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and—snap!—the job’s a game!”

I asked him to find the fun in the clothesline that was an eyesore and added to the cacophony.

He smiled and asked, “Can you find a pattern? Would you hang these clothes differently?”

  1. 100 words and all said well!
On a different note, I find it weird how men can find a pattern in this activity

  2. There are ways to find the joy even in the mundane chores. Just like the beauty lies in the eye of beholder, the joy lies in the mind set of the person executing the task! Wish I also get hold of that mind set…
    Short and engaging!

  3. Wow, Shilpa!

I love the way you wove two different prompts into one beautiful fabric (of the kinds the picture has in it). *Pun intended*

Particularly, about finding the ‘fun’ in doing the yawn-inducing household chores! Love your creativity.

  4. He’s sure to be optimistic, he’s not doing the laundry, or the same thing day in and day out after all!:))
Your post made me smile and I so love how you used both the prompts in such a fun way, Shilpa. You are brilliant!

  5. Haha, interesting way to combine the two prompts. And the message is very true too. We can make almost anything fun.

And even if we can’t find anything to like in the task, there are other ways to make it tolerable. I for one, always have music or audiobooks to go along with my least liked tasks.

  6. 100 words post is not an easy job at least to me. And see how beautifully you wrote the post kept the creativity intact and a beautiful blend of two prompts.

  7. Now that was an interesting way of weaving 2 different stories, indeed life feels monotonous but I try finding a pattern in hanging clothes differently.

  8. Finding the fun is the core thing everyone should understand which all works happier and easier. I loved the way the conversation went on.

  9. The daily chores are so boring at times. But when they had to be done every day then it’s better to find that fun element. I admire your way of writing in fewer words and still the story looks complete.
