If we were having coffee, I would ask you about your week and listen to what all you have been up to too. I hope all is good with you.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I am spending my free time watching Netflix series. I have watched 4 seasons of Dexter in these past few weeks.  Seeing so much of gore and blood without flinching made me wonder if I am I secretly wanting to be a violent killer. I know that’s certainly not the case, but this series is so gripping and compelling that even though I know how it will end, I am glued to it.  I also finished watching Seven Seconds, a 10 episode crime drama series. It was a bit slow for my taste but a captivating story with some great performances.

If we were having coffee, I would also tell you that I have watched all the 8 episodes of the much talked about Sacred Games, Netflix’s First Original Series in India. I saw this series in 2 days which has bollywood’s A-listers like Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte  along with some great acting by all other actors. It was amazing to watch this intelligent, well-crafted, extremely convincing and realistic story. I can’t wait to watch the second season of this series. Have you watched Sacred Games?

If we were having coffee, I’d share that I am currently watching Wild Wild Country on Netflix which is a documentary series on Bhagwan Rajneesh aka Osho. I have read a bit about this self-styled godman who loved his Rolls Royce cars and Rolex watches and his huge following. But this series is an eye opener. His cult was so rich that they created their own town in the desert of Oregon, had their own airline and airport and even built a giant dam and an electricity station. The influence Osho had on his followers was incredible. I still have to catch the last 3 episodes of this series and am looking forward to know more about this cult which was so popular in the 80s.

If we were having coffee, I am sure you would have told me to stop going gaga over the various series on Netflix and talk about something else.

If we were having coffee, what would you share with me? Tell me, tell me, I am all ears!

If we were having coffee, we would have probably finished our coffee and would promise each other that we need to meet more often here. What say you?

  1. Having coffee and discussing sitcoms is such a lovely idea, I watch Girl in the City recently and such a jazzy, down to earth serial tapping into the lives of the young generation. I am reading, Shashi Tharoor, why I am a Hindu and plan to read Sacred Games again after a decade.

    1. I have heard about Girl in the City. Will check it out. Why I am Hindu is not the genre I read, but check if it is available on Kindle at economical rate. I am sure reading Sacred Game again would be good, but do watch it too.

  2. Oh my thats a lot of Netflix 😉
I too watched SG after all the hoo-ha but wasnt overtly impressed as I had tried reading it too but….. It was too slow; unnecessarily profane and the repetitive constipated expressions from most of the actors really put me off – ok ok – dont call me a grouse now!! I love the crime series from Hollywood and probably compared the slickness of it to that 😉
And coffee reminds me, I have been enjoying the coffee you gifted me – made cupcakes, cold coffee and now re-used the grounds into an amazing body scrub! Thank you so so much for the gift! It was just perfect for me!

    1. Hahaha, SG really put you off.
Aha! That made my day. So glad that you loved that coffee. I saw your coffee cup cakes… they looked yum. Do bake them when we meet next 🙂 Body scrub sounds great too. Will try it out!

  3. Sounds like fun, Shilpa. I lived in Pune in the early ’70s when the Rajneesh (pre-Osho days) movement was at its peak. Somedays the streets were a sea of orange. And I’ll never forget my shock when couples would kiss on the road – I was below 10! 😉
I read about this movie and was shocked to know that they were so aggressive too.

    1. I can imagine your shock. As I am watching this series, I am amazed at how this cult was so open and rejected conventional values system and how they believed in inhibition-free lifestyle.
Yeah, they were so self sufficient in Oregon, they had skilled people from all fields and in such dedicated workers. While they were a peaceful lot earlier, but they went the dark way! Pretty intriguing and fascinating group this is!

  4. what? no tea? i thought all those of india drank tea as a carry over from the english. 😉

    just kidding.

    this was a wonderful write

  5. If we were having coffee, I would share with you that Osho and Madame Sheela were largely reacting to the small town xenophobes of Antleope, OR and she loved to poke them in the eye, figuratively. It didn’t make Osho any more of a moral beacon, but there are tow sides to every coin. I also would tell you of my travel stories.

    1. Yes, the locals were threatened by their growing numbers and power and did everything to uproot them and responded in the same way. It was shared in the series that Osho wanted Sheela to be provocative and aggressive in the media and she was pretty good at that.
Would love to know your travel tales, Gary!

  6. Oh my God! That was certainly too much of crime drama and Netflix. I can’t binge watch anything. Even the movie Raazi I watched. I watched it over 2 days. I was completely moved by it and remained so even after 2 days of watching it. Imagine what will happen if I begin to watch crime thrillers more often. If I were having coffee with you I would have told you I have got back my lost perfect taste of tea which I had been missing ever since I left India, I got back to blogging after 2 weeks of suffering from health issues and I am feeling much much better now.

    1. Raazi… hmmm… have heard so much about it. Must watch it.
Yeah, crime does not appeal to all. It is a genre that I love reading too, so guess watching it isnt a problem with me.
Glad that you got your health, muse and tea back in your life 🙂

  7. I so know how one ends up binge watching. I did that with GoT and am planning to re watch bits when the last season comes through next year. For now there isn’t much TV happening for me. I’m in a bit of a limbo and I really would appreciate a good cup of coffee with a friend.

    1. I know, these series are truly addictive. I havent watched GoT, wondering of I should check it out!
Come to Jaipur and we can have a lot of chats over coffee and tea as well 🙂

  8. Hey, Shilp! That’s another thing we share in common–a fondness for Netflix, esp the Sacred Games! 😛
I loved it and finished watching in 2-3 days. In fact, I got addicted to it! Now I can’t wait for the Season 2 to begin!
I too like watching crime dramas on Netflix, anything other than that, I find tedious and boring. Romance, especially!

    1. The number of similarities we have Shilpa!! It’s amazing!!
I think that these series have crimes that are so bizarre that it is intriguing and I find the whodunit bit fascinating too. Also that they are so gripping that one just has to watch them. You echo my thoughts on romance 😀

  9. You seem to have had a very busy July seeing a lot of TV. I don’t watch netflix because I have to see it on my iPhone and that is just too tedious…. I only watched the Crown on Netflix and that too over a weekend…….can’t do that again.

    1. Yeah, these series kept me busy. I usually watch them on my laptop and rarely on TV. I have watched 2 episodes of Crown. Need to pick up from where I left. It’s another interesting series

  10. Well, I readily admit that I prefer tea to coffee. But, if we were having coffee or some hot beverage, I would tell you about kayaking in the river or about the bees, butterflies, and flowers that I’d photographed late because mid summer here is beautiful and so brief.

  11. Hahaha.. i almost thought this is a sponsored post for Netflix.. I would love to watch these series.. Currently, I am watching movies – Hindi, English, Regional on Amazon Prime. Similar to Netflix, I feel Prime is equally addictive. However, I am staying away from serials. This weekend I watched Raazi, 102 Not Out. Both Excellent movies and I felt it was time well spent though I lost reading time.

  12. Yes, I love watching series on Netflix. I loved Sacred Games. It was sooo good! I have heard really good things about Wild Wild Country and now need to watch it. I recently watched Raazi on Amazon Prime and was blown away. You have to see it. What a movie! I have seen Dexter a few years back. Very addictive and yes disturbing in some scenes. I had a pretty good and hectic week.

  13. Wow Netflix has got so much to offer. I haven’t watched any of this yet.
I binge watched TVF’s recent offering 7 episode long ‘Yeh Meri Family Hai’ – a story of Harshu a 12 year old kid and his family set in the 90s. It was so good that I recommended to each and everyone I talked to in the last two days.

  14. Ha ha! I see that you are having a good time which is a great thing. I binge watched Sacred Games and Wild Wild Country is on my list too. I enjoyed Stranger Things and a Spanish show called Money Heist. Check those out too 🙂
    Enjoyed reading this post, Shilpa!

  15. Ah yes, we would be sitting and discussing NetFlix indeed. I watched all episodes of Sacred games and loved it. THe way it was shot, the screenplay and the characters.

  16. Secret games was absolutely fabulous. I was so hooked I watched all the episodes on one day. Dexter was a bit slow for me… So I hardly got past few episodes. I am wondering what to watch next. But I do watch CID on YouTube all the time

  17. If we were having coffee this time, I would have given you a patient ear…’coz I dont watch TV and NetFlix is many light years away from me!
If we were having coffee, I would have told you that I was busy helping my 5th grade daughter in her studies for she had her exams.
If we were having coffee, I would have told you that after two writing challenges back to back, I am feeling exhausted and in no mood to write.
    Thanks for the coffee Shilpa!

  18. Wow Shilpa you are on the roll with all the Netflix series. I tried watching Sacred Games based on all the fabulous reviews, but could not go past two episodes. I guess I can’t stand gore, and profanity. No, not a prude at all, but some things are just beyond my taste of things.

I have watched Wild Wild Country and was pretty much intrigued as you are.

As for me, if you and I were having coffee; which hopefully will be a reality some day, I’d tell you about my how I’m currently home spending time with my ten year old who has a long drawn bout of viral. I’d also tell you about the fantastic Elizabeth Gilbert book that I’m devouring-Big Magic and how much I love it, though I’m reading it at a snails pace.

I’d also tell you how I binged on pakoras as the rain God’s blessed us over the weekend. 🙂

    So there!

  19. I watched SG but I didn’t enjoy it. I like more of a suspense. I am an Agatha Christie fan. I would like to catch up that ln Netflix. Also, I won’t mind watching Grey’s Anatomy. Recently, I watched Mahi Way and I liked it. It was light. With a toddler and his sister, I feel it’s been ages I have enjoyee my TV time. But would love to watch these again.

  20. We have been stuck for 3 days on Sacred Games, My husband gets bored. I just read the lines aloud. Hope it makes him a little keen now 🙂

  21. It’s Netflix binge season for you! I saw the rushes of Wild Wild Country and it definitely piqued my interest and after reading your update, have to check it out.

  22. Netflix is a really good option these days. Gone are the days when we had to buy the cd’s of favourite movies or wait until they were officially released on Television. And not to mention the pirated business.

  23. Haha. Tell me about it! Netflix is a blessing. P has been traveling up the mountain (literally) for the last one month and I am home alone with Muffy. I watched Lust stories and I’m on with Pretty little liars. Addicted now! So I hear you! Thanks for the recommendations. I will drop by for our next cup of coffee.

  24. Oh, I love how conversations over coffee catch spontaneous tones & somehow digress into sitcom discussions. 🙂 That’s so much like me with my tea & a buddy.

Yes, these are very much part of our lives. By the way, I’m keen on watching Sacred Games.

  25. Netflix series is like latin and greek for me. I don’t watch movies and stories mostly. But if I have a cup of coffee with you, I will be talking about the books I read and the places I visited.

  26. Oh God, while reading your post and thereafter the comments, I felt I’m the only one left in this universe who is yet to explore Netflix. Heard so much about it and the Sacred games, I think its time to have a cup of coffee and hit on it 🙂 But as of now, if we were having coffee, I would have told you how crazy days I have with my fussy kids and how much coffee I drink everyday to keep myself sane.

  27. If we were having coffee I would be interested in hearing abbout your Netfliz watching and would ask you why you chose those particular shows. Then i would ask if you had seen some of the shows on Netflix that I have watched. Once we got through with that we woudl know a lot more about each other than when we first sate down.
