If We Were Having Coffee…4th August

Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggersfood-2570675_1920 If we were having coffee, I’d welcome and thank you for stopping by for a bit of catching up over coffee. Oh, if coffee isn’t your elixir,  you may grab a beverage of your choice. So pick your cup and pull up a chair. If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I have taken up the #30daydeclutteringchallenge which was shared by Shailaja on Instagram. From August 1st, my home is on a detox diet. I am spending 15- 30 minutes every morning and clearing the clutter and organizing the stuff in cupboards and drawers. It’s just been 4 days since I started this decluttering challenge and I must say that I am chuffed to bits with the result. I have finished one room and I cant stop myself from opening the drawers and cupboards again and again to admire the neat and clutter-free look. If we were having coffee, I’d share that I am doing this in an organized way. For every drawer or cupboard, I have 4 tasks to do…
  • Keep the items at their rightful place. I found a knife in my dressing table and I was looking for it everywhere in the kitchen last week.
  • Trash away the items that aren’t needed. Gosh! The number of nail paints, cosmetic items, rubber-bands, shampoo sachets, pens, notepads… I have discarded.
  • Pack stuff to donate. Aah. This pile is growing in leaps and bounds. While sorting the cupboards, I realized that I have so many clothes which I have not worn for years!! Some have sentimental value attached to them, some I believe, I would fit in one day, AGAIN!! While there are some clothes which no longer suit my dressing sensibilities. Without giving in to the emotions, I just removed these clothes and packed them in bags. I can see that my cupboards are breathing a sigh of relief.
  • Wash and clean. This is my favourite part. Yes, my OCD for washing and cleaning is at its peak.
If we were having coffee, I’d  show you the picture I clicked while de-cluttering today. Can you believe that one of the drawers had these empty boxes of gadgets? I wonder why I had kept them, knowing that the Kindle or the FireTV Stick or the Camera or the Internet Dongle would NEVER ever be packed in their respective boxes again. I binned all these boxes along with the instruction manuals and information leaflets.

If we were having coffee, I’d also talk about the Kiki Challenge. I am sure you must be aware of this ridiculous challenge that is sweeping the world. The #inmyfeelings challenge – also referred to as the Kiki challenge – involves getting out of the car while it’s still moving, leaving the door open and dancing as the car keeps rolling forwards. And, of course, the whole thing has to be filmed, or it didn’t happen. I have seen so many videos where this challenge has gone horribly wrong. I fail to understand how people can let go of their rational thinking and take up such risky challenges. What do they prove by taking up such dangerous and life-threatening challenges? Would love to know your thoughts on this online challenge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llC6PlS9lK8 If we were having coffee today, I’d tell you that this is it for this week. Thank you for having coffee with me. See you same time, next week?

  1. If we were having coffee I’d say I like the declutter challenge. I may start my 30 days today. I might not be able to do 30 coffees consecutive days because I’m not home every day. Lots of weeks I stay with friends. Its about time for me to roll and that means lighten the load.
I also say I thing the jumping out of moving vehicles is nutz. Survival I fittest I suppose.
My jeep has been in the shop for almost 3 weeks. Hopefully it gets out on Wednesday.

    1. Oh yes, you can start today and de-clutter for some time everyday. It’s amazing how much we accumulate over a period of time!
Aah! This Kiki Challenge is simply absurd. Why would people want to risk their lives?
Hope you get your Jeep soon and thanks for dropping by 🙂

  2. Thank you Shilpa for coffee and tid bits of your week.
De-cluttering for 30 days! This sure is going to make your house feathery light.
If we were having coffee, I would have nodded in sync with every word you said about Kiki challenge.
Sipping my coffee, I would have told you that rain at my end is throwing drama queen tantrums! Its rains and stops without giving any hint, sometimes as a heavy down pour and sometimes as a weak and crippled cry baby. And with that I would have opened my umbrella to say you good bye and headed home!

    1. Oh yes, my cupboards and drawers are breathing easily now. 😀
Aah! Rain and its tantrums. We are having a drying spell since more than a week now. We would love to have some rains here. Thanks for joining me over coffee, Anagha 🙂

  3. I am in the process of doing my own decluttering challenge. It’s not going to be finished in one month, but I love the concept of getting rid of what I no longer need. Kudos to you for doing it every day!

    1. That’s wonderful that you are decluttering too. It’s ok even if it takes long. It’s important to do things at your own pace.
Yeah, there’s an old saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”…
Thanks for dropping by, PJ 🙂

  4. I’m in the process of decluttering too but not participating in Shailaja’s challenge due to not being able to commit regularly. It’s amazing how much we hoard! I’ve cleared a lot of clothes that I have to donate but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. Next step, study, kitchen and then the lounge area. Good to catch up with you over coffee! Hope you have a great week ahead!

  5. I am decluttering too but not in a challenge. I always have a bag to put stuff into that I want to give away. If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am going home(s) for Diwali. The tickets are booked. My phone was in repair and it will be back next Monday. I am happy cos I have missed clicking so so much. 🙁 That Kiki challenge is such a silly one.
I love reading these posts, Shilpa and they are a good peek into your world.

  6. Thank you for the shout out, Shilpa and so glad that the challenge is working out for you. 🙂

The KiKi challenge is something I really do not understand. I can’t wrap my head around this absolute idiocy 🙁

Hope you have a good week ahead.

  7. What a beautiful write up Shilpa. I’ve been watching aot of videos on #kikichallenge and few of them really make me want to smack the participant on the head. It is really a huge risk leading to accidents. But some of the epic fail ones are also uploaded on YouTube and you will burst out laughing seeing those.

  8. Applaud for the clutter free diet you are on. I did this a few years back and found how light my living has become . No wonder I try to keep it as light as possible and most of my empty spaces are filled with items to be re used or segregated trash

As for the Kiki challenge- people are insane and looking for trouble. Btw I hadn’t heRd of this yet.

  9. Kiki Challenge is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I mean all those challenges were maddening, but this is miles apart in its sheer stupidity,
Decluttering is good, I wish we could do that to our brains too! It’s nice and refreshing to read your posts Shilpa.

  10. KIKI challenge has been insane. Like daily a new video pops every hour I think.
I love to clean but of late been lazy. Maybe I catch some motivation from you 🙂

  11. hahha i have kept so many boxes that i was wondering what was i planning to do! I trashed them recently, thankfully. The Kiki Challenge and the videos that’s flooding my TL is giving me headaches these days!!

  12. I have to declutter too. It’s a constant issue with me but I have not gotten around to doing it regularly apart from my cleaning fits once in a while. I would love to sit and have coffee with you, Shilpa. Still waiting for the time when we will meet.

The kids and husband are having fun seeing all the crazy Kiki videos. So much so that the pesky song is constantly in my head.

  13. If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’m king over my desk and it does not look good. Need to do a bit of clearing. We live in a minimal space and I am very wary of hoarding things. So my closet and cupboards look good. My desk though!

Also, it helps when you live with a clean freak hubby. All things will go in their respective place coz of this one! 🙂

Kiki challenge is absurd and at the same time amusing. There was a video I saw yesterday that told it as it was – stupid and risky! Will share if I can find it!

  14. I think declutter is my middle name. My OCD drives me to have everything organized, in its place and labeled. Couldn’t have it any other way. The Kiki challenge, to put it mildly, is stupid – ‘nuf said!

  15. If we were having coffee today, I would have told you about our recent trip to Cincinnati and Smoky Mountains. It was so close to nature where you can feel as if touching the clouds. This kiki challenge is height of insanity.

Catch up with you soon with another cup of coffee. Till then enjoy!!

  16. Your declutter challenge reminded me of my own situation. I have just shifted to a new house, and despite leaving most things behind/selling them off, I think I need to still declutter this new place. See how fast stuff grows.

Btw, I have sent you a message on Indimail.
