Saree Chic: Fusion and Modernization of a Traditional Attire

The recent trend following the jhumka girl from Rocky and Rani Ki Prem Kanani brought back huge applause to one of the most extravagant ethnic dresses for women – sarees! This outfit is graceful, sophisticated, elegant, beautiful, stylish, and everything that can make it appear unique. If the attire is so impactful, imagine the women draping them! However, while donning the beautiful saree over your body, why not try modern styles? We are sure you have already seen those designers and fashionistas playing with different styles over this extravagant piece of fabric. Get your imagination to work as we show you some magnificent yet unique ways to drape the 6 yards of fabric beyond the saree over your curves.

The modern twist to the saree

Today’s women feel most comfortable in Western outfits. No regrets about that. It is essential that you sometimes flaunt your traditional attire as well. But what if you don’t want to be on the extreme side of either of these attires? So, you can create an excellent contemporary style with a fusion of modern and traditional saree. For example, wear jeans and a crop top and flaunt a lovely chiffon saree over it. We are sure you will have attractive colors in your wardrobe matching your modern attires beautifully. Or, you can also skip the jeans and replace them with a long or short skirt to create a more extravagant look. Also, wearing a denim jacket with your regular saree is enough to create a wonderful fusion of both cultures.

The statement of jewellery

Sometimes even your plain, solid-colored regular saree can look sophisticated and elegant if you wear it with lovely statement jewellery. You can bring out all those kundans and diamonds from your granny’s jewellery box and donn them with your saree. A maangtika, a mangal sutra ( if you are married), and a jhumka make even a dull saree come out well. And if you dislike traditional stones and gold or silver, try wearing your saree with boho jewellery pieces like a funky necklace, one ear stud, or a simple nose ring. The final outcome of a saree with these pieces would be alluring, we promise!

Transitional twist

Another way of wearing a saree differently is wearing it with one of the most comfortable ethnic dresses for women, salwar suits. With this attire, you can adorn a typical salwar suit or churidar or Anarkali and then drape a saree over it instead of a dupatta. The on-lookers will keep guessing which type of traditional attire you wear, and you’ll be the most fancy-dressed lady in the group too!

Colors, prints and more

A modern woman loves to experiment with colors, patterns, and prints. What better way than to try them all in your favourite saree? If you like a brighter color strategy, get your saree in vibrant shades of neons, gold, and silvers. If you haven’t yet, try complementing the neutral shades of cholis with contrary-hued sarees and see the magical after-effects. You must even ditch the traditional shades of red and pink at festive events or weddings and opt for soft pastels to look unique and glowing in celebrated functions wearing a saree.

I am sure, you’d agree  – wearing a saree was never more diverse before! By giving this traditional dress a modern twist, you are definitely going to win those intriguing glances and look your best on all occasions.
