Things are as they are, not as they should be!

Friday’s 55 Fiction : Still…

55 Fiction is a form of micro-fiction that refers to the works of fiction limited to a maximum of fifty-five words.

Still…

It was the H-hour. The corridor outside the OT was teeming with women of the family having expectant faces and anxiety writ large on their faces, while the men managed a cool facade.

A cheery announcement by the nurse, “Congratulations, it’s a Girl”!

Without a word or a glance, they all did a vanishing act!

** Based on a recent real-life incident. The birth of a girl child is still considered a bane and a burden in many societies in Rajasthan. The most shocking aspect is the callous attitude by both the women and the men of the so called educated and ‘upper class’ families.

  1. It is really a sad situation. Same is the situation here in Punjab too. What disheartens more is that even so called educated people think like this.

  2. These days a girl is equally capable of doing anything…gone are the days where she always had to be a dependent on male members of the family. Yet people rejoice the birth of a son much more than a daughter.
    VERY SAD INDEED.

  3. Its amazing. We live with double standards through our lives.
