The Walls We Build

Drabble

She frowned and the furrows on the forehead deepened too.

A dozen thoughts raced through her head which painted multiple images simultaneously.

Like a vortex, she got sucked into these vivid images. The more she worked on it, the deeper she was drawnΒ into it.

It exhausted and overwhelmed her resulting in a lot of darker and sleepless nights.

But did that deter her?

No, she gave wings to her imagination and worked hard some more on it, till it robbed her of the present and her peace of mind too.

Yes, that’s worry, the painful pebble in her shoe.

  1. aaha ! How irritating these pebbles can be ! And how easily we lose our peace of mind to them !
Beautiful execution of the prompts πŸ™‚ As usual, a meaningful drabble !!

    1. Oh yes, though so small in size, they can have be pretty irksome and cause a lot of pain in our life. Thanks, Sreeja, glad you liked it πŸ™‚

  2. That’s a great take on the prompt…of course worries can rob us of our peace but it is for us to keep moving…that’s what its all about.

    1. True, like they say, worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere! So it is best to change gears and think positive and move on!

  3. ah!! Those damn pebbles!! They can be so annoying!
I wish it were as easy as removing one’s shoes and shaking it!

    nicely done Shilpa! πŸ™‚

    1. I know what you mean, Pixie… it is certainly not easy but not impossible. So, if give it a try, these pebbles can come out easily! Thank you πŸ™‚

  4. That was a smart way to combine the prompts, Shilpa ! Good job. Yes, fear is the most troublesome of all the pebbles but when it subsides the feeling of victory more than makes up for it. The adrenaline rush and the optimism that victory brings is truly satisfying.

  5. Great take on the prompt! Stress, Tension, Worries – a nasty pebble in shoes! But it is upon us to lose those pebbles, right?

  6. oh yes WORRY .. now that is a main cause of health problems we get into many a time …

I am like that I worry a lot unnecessarily.. and I dont seem to shirk it off.. I do think sometime WHY .. but just cant change myself πŸ™

  7. Worry.. It is the root problem all the ills in ones life.
But,no one wants to get into a worrry situation ,it is the circumstances in life and that is the time to be brave and come out of it.

  8. Most of us have had that pebble enter our shoe at some point(s) of time in our lives. We can’t prevent that pebble from entering our shoe, but we certainly can try to get rid of it once we are aware of its presence.

  9. Loved the quote you have used Shilpa. You do play with words well.
Yes you’re right, worry is that bruising pebble in our shoe which creates problems where there are none.
