(A) “In the morning I woke like a sloth in the fog.”― Leslie Connor
(B) “Every new day gives me ceaseless hope to reach out for my dreams”― Lailah Gifty Akita
Which of these two describe your mornings?
Did you say that mornings are not the best part of the day for you? Did you hit the snooze button one more time today? Or snuggled under the quilt to catch some more sleep for just 5 minutes? And when you finally got up from the bed, you ran through your routine like a robot. Aah! You lament that you never have enough time in the morning! Believe me, you are not alone!!
Though you may be doing this almost every day, there is a realization at the back of your mind that throwing away the covers and waking up with a spring in the step is the key to a good morning. Starting your day on a happy and relaxed note greatly increases your chances of a healthy and productive day. In fact giving a good start to the day, sets the tone of the whole day ahead. Yes, the way you start your morning can make or break the rest of your day.
Hal Elrod, author of “The Miracle Morning”, says that if you win the morning, you win the day. He has a routine called SAVERS, to start the day off right.
The SAVERS acronym for Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing, reminds us of six habits or rituals that can improve our morning routines.
Here’s how you can incorporate SAVERS in your daily routine and win the morning and the day ahead.
- Silence : Meditation, Prayers, Breathing. Whatever it is for you, the idea is to quiet your mind and block out the chatter and the start the day with calm thoughts.
- Affirmations : Encouraging words you tell yourself to achieve your goals, overcome fears, be healthy and happy, and live out your purpose.
- Visualization : Imagine yourself doing each thing, step by step that you need to do to accomplish your goals. Them imagine what it will feel like when you succeed.
- Exercise : It doesn’t have to be powerlifting or long distance running. Just do some bodyweight exercises for 5 minutes to get the oxygen flowing to the brain.
- Reading : Fill your brain with positive thoughts and ideas to improve yourself. Learn the knowledge of people who have accomplished the things you want to do,
- Scribing : Writing or journaling is a great way to process your thoughts and reflect on your life. It will help you to be more self aware and more articulate.
Making SAVERS as a part of your daily morning works wonders because it…
- Helps create a positive mental attitude
- Increases self confidence
- Keeps you focussed as you achieve your daily goals
- Infuses energy and enthusiasm in your day
- Gives you time to review and reflect
Morning will come, it has no choice, but it is up to you to make your good mornings into Gold Mornings with SAVERS #Colgate360GoldMornings

I am now a morning person all because I love to watch the sun rise and I find that an early start makes me feel like I have achieved so much during the day! Love the SAVERS routine as I already follow it and find myself at my best then. Highly recommended for all!!!
True that… when you start your day early, you have so much time at your hand to do things. Thanks Esha, glad you follow the SAVERS, they can indeed make our day beautiful and happy one!
I am a night person, and I guess I will always be. But the (very few) mornings I have woken early, I have enjoyed 🙂
Destination Infinity
I can stay up late and do more work too. But it makes sense to do all that in mornings 😀
Gradually getting back to being a morning person. We should meet up soon. It’s been too long.
That’s a fantastic change, Kadambari. It does wonders to our day. Yes, we must meet, come over when you free!
I am with you on that. It’s such a pain to hit the alarm button and rush..so less time. Great pointers.
Been there… done that! Rushing through the day can be so tiring and irritating!
I see the sense in what you say but Gawd! it’s hard to wake up. When I do wake up I love it – the rising sun and the quiet. It’s beautiful. I just need to sleep early I guess.
I know what you mean, Tulika. True, everything will fall in place if we sleep early. Oh, the peace and tranquility of the mornings is amazing and I love your balcony… it would be so beautiful to sit and have your first tea there and reflect or just look around!
I am a total morning person. It doesn’t matter how late I sleep, most days I am awake at 5-6 am in the morning, watching the sun rise from my terrace. I wouldn’t say I follow the SAVERS but I think it is a very correct way of starting the day.
Old traditions all emphasize the SAVERs in different ways. Just reiterates how much more intelligent they were and understood the basics of the body better.
Great post, loved it
Wow! You have a great habit, Shahid. Truly awe-inspiring!
SAVERS are a great way to start a day… makes you more at peace and productive too.
I am a night person but I try to make my mornings pleasant with SA and E. Need to make the rest three pointers a part of NY ritual too. This was a great post with great takeaways! Thanks!
I can stay late for work and can get up early in mornings too but I just cant exercise. This is such a big drawback with me! Thanks Aditi, hope you are able to make your mornings gold mornings with the rest of the SAVERS! Cheers!
I like the options you’ve given to those who aren’t morning folks. We need to motivate ourselves to continue good work and spread the positive energy. I have never been a morning person but ever since I began meditation, I feel energized to wake up. Also, I begin my morning with prayers and affirmations – that way, I start on a positive note!
Great way to start your mornings, Swapna! Positive thoughts early mornings can really make your day!
I am not a morning person though I get up early. I would rather stay in bed and snooze. Good tips
We are in the same boat, Suzy! 🙂
I have bookmarked SAVERS as a way now! Gotta work my mornings on these lines 🙂
Good luck, Richa 🙂
SAVERS what a simple idea! I wake up everyday at 6.30 a.m irrespective of holidays….thanks to my over-punctilious body clock!
That’s so cool, Kala! Impressive indeed!
Very true shilpa ! I love the mornings and I do practice gratitude, stretches, meditation and affirmations as soon as I get up. Then I keep the reading and the writing later on as I help my daughter to reach school on time… its very good to also add the last two.. thanks for sharing !!
Superb morning rituals you have Genevive. Very inspiring! Good luck with Reading and Scribing too 🙂
so now i got to go and buy a colgate to make GOLD.. maybe i can get rich 🙂 he he he he he
BUT the statement is true its up to us to make the morning a GOLDEN morning
Bikram’s
I would like that too. 😀
Oh yes, it all depends on us as to how to turn our day!
You have a point, but I still struggle with waking up – especially in the winters! 🙁 But once I do manage to pull myself from the bed – mornings are my favorite time of the day. I am always full of energy at this time, and feel like I can handle anything!
Oh getting up in winters is a pain!
Agree with you, mornings do give you that power and positivity!
For the last 10 years, i follow (B). Before that, i was a night owl. Waking up early has been good for my well being. Nice to know SAVERS, i do follow most of them. Nice post Shilpa:)
You are doing great, Asha! And I must tell you again that you inspire me!
O I wish to do all of it so so much Shilpa.. But you know the magic snooze does! And 5 min of sleep is only happiness, not to mention it snatches away the time to meditate, exercise, and scrib in the morning! I really want to change that, but God knows when will that day come!
This post did give some learning and acted sort of an eye opener.
Cheers
Aah! The snooze button… the sweet enemy!!
Today is the day, seize it my dear. Good luck to you as you make these SAVERS a part of your morning ritual. Thanks Geetika, glad that this post did some value-add for you! Cheers 🙂
