B is for Balance

My theme for this year’s Blogging from A to Z April Challenge is Marriage from A to Z in 55 Words.  B is for Balance in Marriage, today!

B is for Balance in Marriage

55 Fiction

He is an extrovert while she is an introvert. Balance with Opposites in Marriage

He’s a morning person and she is a night owl.

He likes it loud, she likes it soft, the music that is.

Reading and writing looked like work to him while these were her passions.

So post marriage do the opposites attract, still?

No, they attack!

A Word to the Wise

We are sun and moon, dear friend; we are sea and land. It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is: each the other’s opposite and complement. Hermann Hesse

  1. Interesting story.. The yin and yang require a particular alignment for harmony.. If not though they are yin and yang, there will only be friction ..

    1. Thank you GS! Achieving yin-yang balance is important because that helps us to stay happy and fulfilled in any relationship.

  2. My husband and I were completely opposite to each other…But I have gradually found that with time we have become very similar…makes sense?

    1. I know, I am seeing that!! Goes on to prove that opposites do attract!! Thanks LuAnn! Glad to share some smiles with you! 🙂 ♥

  3. I think if personalities are opposite it can still work but there have to be some common interests and of course, common values. My ex and I were too similar — both stubborn, both avoidant and well, no wonder he is now my ex. I’ll admit that complete opposites probably don’t work.

    1. A lot of couples are completely opposite to each other, but guess with time, they learn to accept and respect the differences and find some common grounds too. And that works out well! 🙂

    1. I am sure there is always some or the other common things, if not, they have to really work at peaceful co-existence!

  4. Balance, in 55 Words ! Hats off…..
As long as there is love, we find peace in imbalance too….. that that imbalance actually balances the love 😉 Beautiful post, Shilpa ji 😉

  5. If you have the will, you make peace with the opposites even the idiosyncrasies. They actually add to the fun elements. But on the larger issues in life, similarity of opinion is mandatory!

    1. True, most of the couples are different but they do work out a balance and make things work despite the disparity!

  6. Me and hubby completely opposite. We dated for 7 yes before we got married and were well aware of how different we were. Yes there was apprehension but what worked for us was love, understanding, not changing each other and most imp space.

  7. Oh wow, lovely theme!
Differences make life interesting. And enjoying these makes one happy! Once you understand this there will be B for Balance and no A for Arguments!

  8. Oh how true! When my husband met me, we were like chalk and cheese, but now from having respected each other’s personalities we have been able to imbibe some of each other’s qualities!

    1. I just pondered at our friends and relatives circle and could not find any couple who are similar in most of the things! So wonder how it would be with them… always in sync and no conflicts??

  9. The story of every marriage.. Opposites all the way, fighting everyday. I think however, that by the time we get to old age we become pretty similar… Or maybe we will simply lose the energy to spar.

    1. Yeah, almost all couples are opposite to each other in so many ways and still the marriage works out! Totally cool 🙂

  10. Opposites do attract, and how 🙂 My husband hates going out, movies, loud music, writing and impulsive behaviour whereas i am the opposite. We both have given each other the freedom to be ourselves and be together, complementing each other and not fighting. I think it would have been so boring if we both had the same interests and hobbies 🙂 Lovely post, yet again.

  11. I so love these lines…and the word Balance. Once a friend told me what fun to be with someone who is your reflection, we should add some spice to life. I agree, when two different people learn to live with each other there is a lifelong growth of souls…
Reread this: “We are sun and moon, dear friend; we are sea and land. It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is: each the other’s opposite and complement.”

    1. “When two different people learn to live with each other there is a lifelong growth of souls”… so so true!

  12. Nice!!! I love the way you balance deep thoughts with easy words…I agree with yoy …I feel similarity broods boredom … Diversity always keeps people exploring each other …

Do check my second day post ..It has a surprise for you 😀

    1. I think the same too… must meet some similar couples! Thanks a lot for the wonderful surprise! Loved it, Apoorva 🙂 ♥

  13. This sounded like my story except that I’m a morning person and he’s a night owl 😀 I think having a partner with dissimilar likes has its owns pros and cons. You are introduced to different activities that you may have never tried before but at the same time when you want to do something you like, you never know if he will give you company

  14. Enjoyed your 55er – you are truly the 55er queen Shilpa. So much said in so little. But I sure hope they don’t attack.

  15. Wise words of wisdom you got there. The balance of accepting each other, and never try to change the other into something he/she is not.. Yes, totally relate and agree:-) Sweet post Shilpa, I really enjoyed reading it:-)

  16. My husband and I are learning that those things that make us opposites are actually good things. It helps us to be a support system for each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

  17. In real life especially among spouses this natural magnetic attraction of opposite poles is nonsense. In fact they repel and repel violently.
However as you mentioned life itself is an art a trapeze of accommodation, understanding. Repulsion may happen, but they must to accentuate the relationship.
But honestly SG there are people and relationships that are best left to repel than accommodate a patched , contrived existence.

  18. Rule of nature is opposites attract and so i believe most matches are designed this way. To make it work, the couples have to complement each other.
    Lovely construction of words,shilpa:)

    1. That’s why the balance is needed and of course the differences have to respected and the relationship has to be worked on.

  19. Interests doesn’t matter but if their thoughts match with each other’s then their life is the most balanced one. A lovely thought…

  20. Well, my parents aren’t exactly polar opposites, but I think I understand it relating to them 🙂

Glad they don’t attack though!

  21. We are sun and moon, dear friend; we are sea and land. It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is: each the other’s opposite and complement. Hermann Hesse

That is such a perfect quote! I have got to remember that. My husband and I believe that we are each a half of a single soul. This makes perfect sense now. 🙂

  22. balance…*strokes his head*…this is not my cup of tea. I breathe chaos while thinking or doing…so is there an yang to chaos? *strokes his head again and this time his hair comes into his hand*…too close! 😉 😀

  23. Of course a balance has to be maintained, for sure else there’s no way of surviving the relationship.

    BTW: lovely quote, there 🙂

  24. I have come across people who reject others for being totally opposite of them. I can’t help but pity them as they lose the opportunity to see/feel/experience a lot more in life through that other…

    This is a good one!

    1. Being extremely opposite to each other may require a lot of hard work and mature thinking. So, may be they know themselves well 😉

  25. Most of the married couples are always the opposite of each other. Very few lucky ones have similar traits and attitude towards life and everything.
Initially it is a bit difficult to adjust, but as time goes by we are able to understand and even appreciate the differences, and some of their qualities rub on us and we start to think like them, that is we both change, and when both change, the differences between us no longer exists. That is the beauty of a good relationship.
    Nice topic Shilpa.

    1. True, time changes us a lot as we learn to accept, respect, adjust and work towards harmony in our relationship!

  26. Marriage is but a balancing act for both the partners.

“So post marriage do the opposites attract, still?
    No, they attack!”

They do? Of course, they do. 🙂

  27. This really reminded me of the wedding vow that says something like “love is not staring deep into each other’s eyes, but looking forward in the same direction together.” So perhaps, it doesn’t matter if you are different people as long as you are pulling in the same direction.
